PS Plus October 2025 free PS4 and PS5 games release date, line-up and final warning

PlayStation Plus subscribers are counting down to the release of the October games, which includes a former game of the year winner.

With Microsoft taking a hit over the recent Xbox Game Pass price increases, Sony has a great opportunity to make PlayStation Plus the number one subscription service in gaming.

And the month of October is certainly starting strong, as Alan Wake 2 headlines the PS Plus Essentials tier.

The next batch of PS Plus Essentials have an October 7 release date. The free PS4 and PS5 games include the aforementioned survival horror game, as well as Goat Simulator 3 and superb puzzle game Cocoon.

The games will be available to redeem for all PS Plus subscribers until November 3, giving users plenty of time to add them to their gaming libraries.

Unfortunately, however, it's not all good news, because this is your last chance to redeem the PS Plus Essentials for September.

The September line-up is headlined by the excellent Psychonauts 2, although I would argue that Stardew Valley is the real star of the show.

The king of the 'cozy' games sees players take over the family farm, where they will attempt to make money by growing crops, rearing animals and making goods.

You'll also need to make friends with your fellow villagers, not to mention attend festivals, visit neighbouring towns and spend time rebuilding the community centre.

PS Plus subscribers can also redeem first-person puzzle game Viewfinder, which sees players manipulate the environment to overcome obstacles and create paths.

As for the October PS Plus releases, Alan Wake 2 is undoubtedly the game of the month.

"What starts as a small-town murder investigation becomes a living nightmare," reads the official description.

"From the studio that brought you Control comes a psychological survival horror starring two protagonists in two very different worlds.

"Play as both the returning Alan Wake and new hero Saga Anderson, witnessing the nightmare unfold from two perspectives – and two realities."

Cocoon is a bit of a hidden gem, coming from one of the designers of Limbo and Inside.
