Summer Walker Brings ‘Over It’ Anniversary Magic to Rocking the Daisies

Six years ago today, Summer Walker released her groundbreaking debut album Over It. Last night, she gifted South Africans one of her best performances yet — just her, her DJ, her wildly talented guitarist, and two stunning dancers who brought the energy to life.

Rocking the Daisies truly delivered, and Cape Town came out in numbers to celebrate both the anniversary of Over It and Summer’s unforgettable set. For many, this album carried them through heartbreaks — though, as I like to joke, I was usually the one breaking hearts. After her performance, I spoke to a few fans about what Over It meant to them. One young woman summed it up perfectly: “That album hit different at 3 a.m. when you’re blocking numbers. And as for the performance, Summer Walker is phenomenal.” That’s when I knew she gave us more than just a show — she gave us an experience.

The stage design, production, and screen graphics made the audience feel like an extension of Summer’s world. Midway through her set, she surprised the crowd by inviting Shekhinah on stage. Our very own South African songbird delivered one powerful performance that nearly stole the spotlight. She didn’t hold back — she gave everything, proving exactly why opportunities like this matter.

From start to finish, the Cape Town crowd sang along word for word, creating a powerful moment that even Summer seemed amazed by. It might have been her first time witnessing such a response outside of America — but that’s South Africa for you. Our girls stay heartbroken, so they felt her music deeply.

And this isn’t the end. Summer Walker is still headed to Pretoria on Sunday, where even more love awaits. But one thing’s for sure — Cape Town rocked.
