Brazil's attack fell limp as Carlo Ancelotti's heavily rotated side lost against a well-drilled Bolivia on Tuesday evening, with a 1-0 win for the hosts securing a place at the 2026 World Cup.
The Selecao fielded a much-changed XI, with World Cup qualification already secure. The result was a rather disjointed side that created admittedly little in the altitude of Bolivia. The home side, meanwhile, peppered the Brazil goal.
They managed 15 shots in the first half alone, and were good value for the opening goal, when it came. Bruno Guimaraes lost the ball at the edge of his box before tripping a Bolivia attacker. Miguel Terceros converted the ensuing spot kick. Brazil offered a bit more attacking threat in the second half. Ancelotti shuffled his pack, introducing Raphinha, Estevao, and Joao Pedro as the visitors probed for an equalizer. There were, accordingly, some moments of promise. Raphinha whipped in some dangerous deliveries and forced a tidy save out of the keeper as time expired.
Otherwise, though, this felt rather like a training exercise for the Selecao, who have already booked their spot in the World Cup. For Bolivia, meanwhile, it was everything as it pushed the side into a intercontinental qualification playoff match for the World Cup, following Venezuela's loss to Colombia in their World Cup qualifier.
