IT’S HARD NOT to get sucked in when yet another longevity influencer claims that they’ve found the key to adding years to your life. Yet new research suggests we’re not making the lifespan gains you’d think after a scroll through social.

The study, which was published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, suggests that life expectancy gains have slowed—and dramatically—since 1939. That doesn’t mean you should give up on your health habits that are backed by science, but it’s something to keep in mind when you’re considering adding a new supplement to your stack.
