Teething

What to do when your baby is teething

4 tactics to try
Baby’s first tooth is a proud moment. Having said that, teething can also be a pain in the mouth. If your little one won’t stop crying or is having difficulty sleeping due to teething, try these methods to help them cope:

1. Make it soft. If your tot has lost their appetite, cook mushier foods that won’t require a lot of chewing. If it’s cold (not freezing), even better, as this will soothe aching gums. Your baby will still ingest much-needed nutrients without experiencing added pain.
2. Give them a massage. Gently rub your clean finger over your infant’s gums to help alleviate the pain. Concentrate on the areas where you can feel their pearly whites emerging.
3. Let them gnaw away at a rubber toy. A non-toxic plaything with bumps will keep them busy and will help take care of sore gums.
4. Practise patience. Oftentimes, all your baby wants is you. Make them comfortable and show them love with extra hugs and kisses.

Important: Teething could cause your baby to have a fever, but only to a certain extent. Usual temperature is between 36°C and 37°C. If you’re concerned, consult your nearest clinic or doctor.
